Back in the days of DOS and Windows 3.1, if you wanted to reuse a DOS command, you had to run a utility called DOSKey. After running this utility in your DOS session, you could run through previously executed commands simply by pressing the up arrow on your keyboard. The only limitation you ran into was that command line history wasn't retained across DOS sessions.
The same is true for current versions of Windows. If you use the Command Prompt at all, you can reuse previously executed commands by pressing the up arrow key until the command you want cycles past the DOS prompt. Like its predicessor, onced you end the current Command Prompt session, the command line history is lost.
